Why This Blog Exists: The Power of Sports and Personal Growth
This blog should have been written years ago, but as we expand to Ventura, I couldn't think of a better time time to go back to why this blog and Next Level exists. I write this blog as a former high school athlete, a former college Division 1 coach, former varsity head coach, and more importantly, a father of 3.
Growing up, I always believed that sports were more than just a game—they were a path to becoming a better person. I've witnessed firsthand how sports can transform lives. Without basketball, I'm not sure how I would have turned out after my parents' divorce. This blog exists to share that passion and to offer insights on how sports can shape character, build resilience, and foster lifelong growth.
Throughout my coaching career, I’ve seen young athletes overcome challenges that go far beyond the field. Whether it's pushing through a tough practice, handling defeat with grace, or celebrating hard-earned victories, the lessons learned in sports extend well into everyday life. They learn to work as a team, set goals, and embrace both success and failure as part of their journey. It’s these moments—both the struggles and the triumphs—that truly define who we are.

As a coach, my goal has always been to empower my players. I’ve strived to create environments where every athlete feels valued and capable of reaching their full potential. This blog is my way of sharing that journey. Here, you'll find tips on building mental toughness, fostering teamwork, and finding balance between competition and fun. I believe that every experience, whether on the field or off, is an opportunity to grow as a person.
Being a father has deepened my understanding of the impact sports have on young lives. I see my children learning important life lessons through sports—discipline, perseverance, and the importance of a positive mindset. These experiences have inspired me to create a platform where other parents, coaches, and athletes can come together and learn how to harness the true power of sports.
This blog is dedicated to those who believe that sports are a catalyst for personal development. Whether you're a parent wondering how to guide your child, a coach looking for innovative ways to inspire your team, or an athlete eager to improve not just your game but your life, there’s something here for you.
Join me as we explore the transformative power of sports and share stories, strategies, and insights that can help us all become better players—and better people.
Here's to growth, grit, and the incredible journey ahead. Welcome to the conversation.
